Marselisborg MTB marathon 2012
August 26st 2012 Aarhus Mountainbike Club welcomes you to the most beautiful mountainbike race in Denmark, Marselisborg MTB marathon.
The race is for everyone. Weaher you are a recreational or elite rider, we are committed to giving you the best experience possible. The race is hard – no doubt about that! The climbs are long and exhausting. The trail varies between wider trails, single tracks, gravel roads and a little bit of tarmac. There is something for everyone, but the trail has no directly dangerous passages. It is an advantage, but not a demand that you have good technical riding skills. And last but not least it is the most beautiful ride in Denmark.
The concept
The race takes place on a 26 km circuit, which shall be ridden 1, 2 og 3 times as you choose. The riders in the recreational category does not have to deside beforehand on which distance they would like to race. You just sign up for the marathon and on the day of the race you choose your distance. When you for example come back to the start/finish area after the first round (26 km) you can choose to ride across the finish line and thereby end your race, or you can continue out on yet another round. You have the same option after the 2nd round (52 km) and can choose either to end your race or continue out on the 78 km distance. Practically there will be two sluices in the start/finish area, one for the riders who whiches to finish their race and one directly through for those who wants to continue out on their next lap.
Recreational riders will be startet in groups of 50. The groups will be formed according to the “first come, first serve” principle.
Elite riders (license holders) however only have the option to sign up for predetermined distances – read more under “Categories and distances”.
Categories and distances
The riders are divided into 2 general categories – the recreational class which is open to everyone and the elite classes for licensed riders only.
The recreational class is devided into the following sub-categories for all distances 26, 52 and 78 km:
- Women
- Men (19-39 years)
- Veteran men (40+)
* This year there will be no youth category for recreational riders. Instead youth riders are encouraged to buy a one-day license for 50 DKK, and participate in the U17 licensed category.
The elite class follows the national rules for XCM races:
- U17 – 52 km
- U19 – 52 km
- Women - 78 km
- Men - 78 km
- H40 – 78 km
Cutoff time: 3.5 hours after the starter gun has sounded, the “out” sluice will be closed and all riders will then have to finish their race. This means, that if you have not completed the first two laps (52 km) within the time limit of 3.5 hours, you will not be able to continue on a 3rd lap.
